Great Lakes Center for Autism Treatment and Research (GLC) is a program of Residential Opportunities, Inc. (ROI), a nonprofit mental health organization that has been serving Kalamazoo and beyond since 1978. Since 2012, GLC has been providing evidence-based, state-of-the-art applied behavior analysis (ABA) services for children and adolescents who have a diagnosis of autism and similar neurodevelopmental disabilities. We believe in helping the children and adolescents we serve reach their full potential in their community and beyond.

The Kalamazoo Drop-In Child Care Center (KDCCC) provides free, part-time child care for income eligible families with children ages six weeks through five years old. The objective of our service is to enable parents with young children to more rapidly negotiate the maze of appointments and services often required to obtain employment, permanent housing, register for school or attend classes, and attain eventual self-sufficiency.

The organization now known as Urban Alliance began in 1999. We saw significant barriers between a city rich in resources and individuals so desperately in need of those resources. These individuals were struggling to hold out the belief that change was possible. They were becoming faceless, voiceless, and increasingly hopeless. Beginning as a small group of volunteers, we ventured out into the community, showing consistency, asking and listening, building trust, and growing relationships with individuals that the world seemed all too willing to ignore. For more than 50 years, St. Vincent de Paul has been privileged to provide critical support to residents of Southwest Michigan who are in need. Through our hands-on charitable work, we've been a vital part of the community. The charitable donations from the community allow us to sell high-quality items in our thrift store at reasonable prices. The funds raised from sales are then used to provide critical support to those in need, from heating and water bill assistance to funeral support.

Kalamazoo Loaves & Fishes is an unique model. We have the capacity to store and move millions of pounds of food each year like a large food bank, but have the direct service model of a food pantry. Through six hunger-relief programs, KLF serves Kalamazoo County and surrounding communities with a focus on nutrition, equity, and dignity.

Ministry with Community is a daytime shelter and resource center in Kalamazoo, Michigan. We are open 365 days per year to anyone who needs our services, including those experiencing homelessness, poverty, substance use disorder, and other crises.

Our food bank has grown…. from a small group of people believing in this mission to an organization that reaches thousands of people each year. We partner with 380+ agencies over eight Michigan counties to make sure that everyone has access to the nutrition they need to succeed. These agencies are organizations such as schools, churches, and other nonprofits that run distribution sites for pantries, Fresh Food Distributions, Backpack Programs, and other programs.

Twelve Baskets is a volunteer-run 501 c3 nonprofit organization founded in June 2014 as a food pantry to serve Portage, Schoolcraft, Vicksburg, Three Rivers and surrounding communities. A Free Store was opened in 2018 to help meet basic clothing, hygiene and household needs.

What began as a group of dedicated community advocates, volunteer doctors, nurses and assistants is now, more than 53 years later, one of Michigan’s most highly recognized FQHCs. Our team offers comprehensive health services at three locations, with an additional set of mobile health and dental units. Our staff administers approximately 165,000 patient visits annually as part of our commitment to serve the community members of Kalamazoo.

The benefit design of the Healthy Michigan Plan ensures beneficiary access to quality health care, encourages utilization of high-value services, and promotes adoption of healthy behaviors.

Welcome to KVCC’s Dental Hygiene Clinic! Our students provide complete dental hygiene care to the general public. The students initially work on manikins and each other completing approximately 20 weeks of rigorous class work prior to seeing clients. The appointments are initially 3 hours in length, allowing time for the students to collect the data necessary to make a complete dental hygiene diagnosis with a treatment plan that fills the client’s dental hygiene needs. The faculty evaluates students during the appointment to assess students’ progress. Depending on your dental hygiene needs, additional appointments may be required.

This charitable service is focused on providing educational and preventative dental services to the underserved population who otherwise don’t have the means to receive dental care due to several barriers. Eliminating barriers between people and oral care services can open avenues for oral health care to reach the individuals often forgotten. Building Blocks is a collaborative and unique organization offering specialized block-level community organizing which engages residents in the development and enhancement of their neighborhood to improve the overall quality of life. The work of Building Blocks builds and strengthens social capital, builds and strengthens resident resilience, increases civic engagement, builds individual and collective resident leadership, improves the exterior look of houses as well as the overall street.

Community Homeworks’ programs are designed to help keep people in their homes and develop homeowner self-sufficiency while ensuring that their homes are safe, decent and sustainable. HRI provides housing solutions for individuals and families during a housing crisis. Our mission is the assurance of housing for socially or economically vulnerable persons in Kalamazoo County. Our services are designed to stabilize households experiencing homelessness and help those in jeopardy of losing their housing.

We offer permanently affordable, democratically controlled rental housing. We are 40 members across ten houses. We operate group cooperatives and single family apartments. We work with residents who earn low incomes. All of our homes are in Kalamazoo’s Vine Neighborhood.

We are a non-profit offering a variety of specialized loan products and financial education services to anyone in the county.  Whether you’re a homeowner looking to repair your credit, or a renter trying to save for your first home, KNHS can help.  We also have a dedicated Foreclosure Counseling service, if you are facing a home foreclosure. We offer the opportunity for low and moderate income households to achieve sustainable, affordable homeownership.

We leverage generous community support with our superpower — volunteers! — to build decent, affordable homes in partnership with people who need a better place to live, want to buy their own homes, and are ready to accept the responsibilities of homeownership. Most people know we build new homes, but we also bring new life to existing houses through our home preservation program. Critical home repair projects provide a long-term sense of safety and security to residents and entire communities. We help homeowners who struggle to maintain their home’s integrity. Homeowners receive tangible assistance for exterior home repairs that address safety and livability, and in return homeowners repay a 0% interest loan for approved repairs.

Legacy House is a six-bed transitional housing facility serving queer-identifying youth ages 18-24 who are actively experiencing homelessness. Legacy House is a branch of the OutProud Safe Program at OutFront Kalamazoo, a multi-faceted initiative to combat the issue of queer homelessness in Kalamazoo County. Legacy House operations and programming strive to be evidence-based, trauma-informed, and equity-focused.

Since 1978, Residential Opportunities, Incorporated (ROI) has provided residential and support services in southwest Michigan for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. We offer a unique person and family-centered philosophy that creates a strong connection with the community for the individuals we serve.

The Haven serves the unsheltered public, specifically men over 18 years old in our Men's Shelter, Families and mothers / fathers with children, Veterans (with a specific Veterans Program), and adult men with disabilities who need an adult foster care. We provide emergency shelter for 30 to 60 days, all daily meals, and daily basic personal care needs. The Haven's case managers provide connection to counseling, substance abuse recovery assistance, support groups, transitional housing, and referrals for medical care, legal assistance, and employment. The Haven serves approximately 245 meals a day to the general public, providing meals on weekends, holidays and other days when the soup kitchen at the Salvation Army is closed.

MI-Resolve is an online system where you and the other party can have a text-based conversation along with a trained mediator to see if you can resolve the matter. Mediators are trained through programs approved by the Michigan Supreme Court’s State Court Administrator and will help all parties create some options that may resolve the dispute.

COPE Network provides resources and a supportive space for substance using and recovery communities in Kalamazoo, Michigan. We aim to provide unique programming outside of common abstinence based models of recovery support. We also aim to provide evening and weekend programming, as well as social and recreational programming to foster supportive communities and allow participants to explore new activities in a healthy and welcoming environment. Our programs are open to everyone 18+ regardless of substance use history, for free or for a low cost.

Our inpatient services are available for individuals with or without insurance, who are struggling with a substance use disorder. Adults 18 years and older, with alcohol, opiate, or other drug dependencies can receive treatment and substance detoxification services in a positive, nurturing environment. We provide 24-hour medical monitoring and nursing care to assist with withdrawal during detoxification. Residential treatment typically involves a stay of 10 to 18 days.

Although not directly tied to a specific recovery program, the Kalamazoo Alano Club has served as a safe place for recovery meetings to take place since 1968. We believe that through creating and nurturing recovery within the Kalamazoo area, we are playing an active role in making our community a better place. By hosting meetings and events, we hope to carry the message that not only is recovery from addiction possible, but that we can actually have fun doing it!

We serve Kalamazoo County by offering peer support to people who have mental health and/or substance use concerns. Family planning is a public health service that helps individuals and families plan for their desired family size and spacing of children or to prevent an undesired pregnancy. Family planning services also provides comprehensive reproductive health care and helps to achieve healthy pregnancy outcomes.

Nurse-Family Partnership empowers first-time moms to transform their lives and create better futures for themselves and their babies. Nurse-Family Partnership works by having specially trained nurses regularly visit and provide one to one support to first-time moms-to-be, starting early in the pregnancy and continuing through the child’s second birthday.

The Next Door is a residential program for  people who identify as women who have nowhere to live. Women in the program concentrate on becoming financially stable and self-supporting.  Women who do not have jobs search fulltime for employment.  Those who do have jobs save one-third of every paycheck for their future housing costs.  Women who are struggling with substance abuse or addiction make and keep a personal recovery plan involving 12-step groups.  Women who have not completed high school get connected with a program to earn a GED.

The Reproductive Health Fund will eliminate financial and transportation barriers to increase access to abortion services, doula care and gender-affirming care as well as on-site access to emergency contraception kits. The comprehensive reproductive health fund represents a larger step towards reproductive justice in Kalamazoo County.
